The salt that is produced at Luisenhall, near Göttingen, comes from the sea. To be more precise, from an ocean that once existed here and dried up 250 million years ago. Since humans did not exist at that time, they had no opportunity to pollute the sea. That makes us very happy and makes this salt so pure, original and valuable. And that is how it is left: unadulterated and free from any chemical additives.
Luisenhaller Salt / Deep Salt from the only pan saltworks in Europe:
Luisenhall: A relic from another time. Luisenhall is the last pan saltworks still in operation in Europe. Over the course of a year, they produce just as much salt as the big players in the industry manage to produce before their breakfast break. But the salt is not really comparable. It is extracted from a depth of 450 meters to the surface of Göttingen as concentrated brine. Once it reaches the top, the brine is heated in huge, flat pans until the salt crystallizes and can be skimmed off. This process is around a thousand years old.
