Did you know that filtered water is good for your hair and skin?

In our society, proper skin and hair care plays an important role in our appearance and well-being. Although most of us pay attention to high-quality care products, we often forget the influence of the water we use every day. In fact, it is not just shampoos, creams and oils that affect our skin and hair - even the water we shower and wash with plays a crucial role. Filtered water can make a big difference here, especially in regions with hard water or high concentrations of chlorine and other chemicals. There is a simple trick you can use to test whether your household has predominantly hard water. Simply take a glass and some washing-up liquid. Now fill some washing-up liquid into the glass and fill it halfway with tap water. If you shake the glass and it looks milky and not very clear, you probably have quite hard water. If it is clear and foamy, your water is soft. But what exactly makes filtered water so beneficial for skin and hair?

Smooth skin through soft water

If you live in an area with "hard" water, you've probably noticed that your skin sometimes feels dry or tight after showering or bathing. Hard water contains high levels of minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, which can build up on the skin and remove natural moisture. This can make the skin drier and more sensitive, which is particularly problematic for people with skin problems such as eczema or atopic dermatitis.

With a water filter, you can turn hard water into softer, gentler water. This means fewer minerals remain on the skin and the skin's natural moisture barrier is less disrupted. Filtered, softer water helps your skin to retain its natural suppleness and reduce dry patches. Soft, filtered water can be particularly beneficial in winter, when the skin is often already stressed by dry heating air.

Less chlorine – softer skin

In many areas, chlorine is added to tap water to disinfect it and protect it from bacteria and germs. In Germany, adding chlorine to drinking water is rather unusual, but in other countries you cannot rely on this luxury. While chlorine is harmless to drinking water in small quantities, it can have an irritating effect on skin and hair. Chlorine removes natural oils from the skin and often leads to dryness, redness and even itching in sensitive people. You may have noticed this in yourself or others: the skin or eyes were visibly irritated after a visit to the swimming pool.

A water filter that effectively filters out chlorine can significantly reduce this burden. This leaves your skin softer and less irritated after showering or bathing. People with sensitive skin or skin problems particularly benefit from filtered water as it dries out the skin less and better supports the skin's natural pH value.

Let your hair shine with filtered water

Not only your skin, but also your hair reacts to the quality of the water you use to shower every day. Hard water can cause minerals to build up on your hair, making it dull, difficult to comb and brittle. Especially with colored hair, hard water can cause the color to fade faster and make the hair rougher.

Filtered water ensures a gentler hair wash. The lower mineral content means that the hair is not weighed down, but remains smooth and shiny. In addition, care products such as shampoos and conditioners are easier to wash out, which reduces residue on the scalp and in the hair. This makes your hair appear lighter and less greasy. Filtered water can help to relieve irritation and reduce dandruff, especially for sensitive scalps.

In Germany, around 2 million people suffer from the skin disease psoriasis (commonly known as psoriasis). Filtered water can also relieve the symptoms of sensitive skin by reducing factors that could irritate the skin.

Support healthy hair growth

Scalp health is crucial for healthy hair growth. Hard water and chlorine can dry out and irritate the scalp, which can lead to itching and dandruff. If the scalp is out of balance, it can also negatively affect hair growth.

Filtered water helps to soothe the scalp and maintain its natural moisture balance. A healthy scalp is less prone to inflammation or irritation and provides optimal conditions for strong and healthy hair growth. Showering with filtered water can be particularly beneficial for people who suffer from sensitive scalps or hair loss.

Investment in well-being and beauty

So not only does filtered water offer health benefits, it can also improve the look and feel of your skin and hair. Less chlorine, fewer harsh minerals and less chemical residue means your skin will retain its moisture and your hair will look shinier and healthier. Whether you're struggling with dry skin or brittle hair, or just want to get the most out of your daily routine, switching to filtered water can be a surprisingly effective step in your beauty routine.

If you feel like your skincare products aren't delivering the results you want, the quality of your water could be the deciding factor you've been overlooking.
